The latest Chromecast dongle from Google is pretty interesting since it can enable users to use various apps. Indeed, the Chromecast is from Google, but you won’t find plenty of apps in it. Apps that are approved and compatible with the big screen can be found. You’ll find plenty of useful apps on Chromecast, including movies & shows streaming, music, games, and many more. So if you’re willing to install other useful apps that aren’t available yet for your Google TV, here’s the guide you should read.

You may have heard about the Sideloading app, but if not, then you should know that these are the apps that you install even if they are not available on the app store. If you install those apps, you do it at your own risk, and usually, it bypasses Google security. But on the web, plenty of secure and trustworthy APK packages are available from where you can get your preferred app.

Not adding every app on Chromecast’s app store with Google TV is because every app doesn’t have a proper user interface and features for a bigger screen. Things are different with Smartphone and tablet screens, but users have to be careful using Google TV.

To download any APK for your Chromecast with Google TV, visit any trusted APK website on your PC and download the latest APK version. Once the download is finished, move it to your Chromecast. You can move it through an external drive or a cloud drive such as Google Drive.

Install File Commander and connect it to your Google Drive through Add Cloud. It will help you to search and open app files on your Chromecast with Google TV. Once you connect it to your Google Drive, you can open your APK files on Chromecast directly through the cloud.

File Commander won’t work right away since Chromecast doesn’t allow apps that are not downloaded from Google Play Store. So in this condition, click on your Profile image>Settings>System and About on your Chromecast. Under the Android TV OS build, click it seven times continuously to active the developer option.

Now, open Settings>Apps, Security & Restrictions>Unknown sources. Under the Unknown sources, you’ll find the File Command app that you need to trust to install. Now open the File Commander app on your Chromecast and pick the APK file in Google Drive to install. Once the app is installed, you can open it right away.

That’s how you can access the Sideloading apps. Plus, if you don’t have a Google Drive account, you can link your File Commander with Dropbox, OneDrive, or any other cloud service. File Commander works perfectly with multiple cloud storage, so you can try out any cloud storage you like.

So this is how you can install and use sideload apps on your Chromecast with Google TV. Remember that some of the apps might create problems like crashes and improper resolution.

Installing apps from third-party sources is not difficult, but users must know and follow the right procedure to send or install apps on Chromecast. Once an app is installed, it will appear in the app library along with other installed apps.
