There are different categories of visually impaired students. Some students can easily move around in the class or school by little bit vision and some students are visually impaired to the level that neither they can easily move nor they read. These students need management and supervision so that they can acquire education and become the better citizen of the country. History is full of examples of blind people’s achievement; a most renowned illustration is of Helen Keller. She not only completed her bachelor’s degree but was a the famous political activist and lecturer as well. Her poems and readings still act as a source of inspiration to various people. There are certain ways to teach blind or visually impaired students in a productive way.


  1. Braille

Braille is the code system composed of engraved dots. All the material is written is provided in braille. The blind student feels the words with the help of sensation he receives from his finger. He keeps on tracking his index finger in the material and gets the ideas about the material which is written. Other students are provided with printed material and blind students are provided with braille in their classrooms.


  1. Recording Equipment

The blind students are allowed to record the lectures of their teachers. They are encouraged to ask questions if they don’t understand the lecture. The teacher should pay more attention to these students and make them relaxed and comfortable in the class. Recording equipment should be provided by the schools to these students.

  1. Audio Books and Personal Digital Assistant

Audio books should be provided to the blind student. These books have all the material included in the syllabus of the students. The blind student can listen to the different lessons and subjects he wants to. These books are very helpful for blind students. PDA or Personal Digital Assistant is like a laptop without a screen, the blind student can use it by noting the important lessons discussed in the classrooms. This portable device is quite effective for the blind student. It can be easily carried and blind student can listen to the recorded material whenever he has to prepare for tests and assignments.


  1. Assistant Writer for Exams/tests

Blind student can be assessed through oral testing for objective portion and a writer should be arranged for them who can write for them. The writer only writes what has been told by the blind student. The writer reads out the question for the blind student and he answers the question. The main aim is to facilitate the blind student in writing it is not at all equals to cheating.

These are some of the teaching tips for teaching a blind student. Blind students are God gifted with intelligence and they score very well on exams as well if they are properly facilitated by their schools. Schools should provide them digital devices which are used for recording lectures and assist them in writing as well to increase their efficiency. Technology has given so many better options for blind students which should be made available to each blind student by his school.
