Most of the time, QuickBooks runs smoothly without any error, but sometimes users face unexpected things. You may encounter an issue with your QuickBooks software while updating it. It is a common issue that can occur due to some issues within the update program itself. It means that the update program of payroll has been damaged.

Reasons why QuickBooks Error 15106 occurs

You receive this kind of error due to one of these reasons listed here.

  • Anti-virus installed on the system is blocking the QuickBooks Update
  • You are not using the administrator account on the computer while trying to update the program.

Well, these reasons are not something that can’t be fixed. You can quickly solve Quickbooks Error 15106 with the help of these steps.

How to Fix Quickbooks Error 15106 on Your Computer

Here are the steps you need to try to fix the Quickbooks Error 15106 on any computer.

Administrator Account – You have to use an administrator account to use the software when updating it. It is very simple; you have to log off to the current and then login with the Admin account.

If you have already logged in with another account, you can right-click on the QuickBooks program and select ‘Run as administrator’ option and then enter the password for the admin account. This will change your access to QuickBooks software as an administrator.

Stop Anti-Virus and Rename Folders – You have to stop the antivirus from messing with the update settings on your system, here is what you need to do.

  • Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc simultaneously.

  • Now, go to the processes tab and select the antivirus.exe file and click on the End Process button located at the bottom of the page. If you aren’t able to do that, then you can try to uninstall the antivirus from the system.

  • Now, you have to rename the QuickBooks update folders using these steps:

    • Open File Explorer on your computer and enter C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks(year)\Components in the URL bar.

    • Then right-click on the downloadqbXX folder and then choose the rename option from the right-click menu. Here XX stands for the version of the QuickBooks you are using on the computer.

    • Then, add .old to the folder and rename it

  • Now, you can try to re-update the QuickBooks Desktop using the correct parameters.

Turn Off UAC – You may also have to turn off the User Account Control if you are using Windows 7 and 8. If you are using Windows 10, you don’t have to turn off UAC or anything.

Perform a Clean Install in Selective Start-up – If all these steps and the problem in your system persist, then you can perform a clean install of QuickBooks in the selective start-up mode. You can check the official QuickBooks website for more details on the selective start-up thing.
