If you want your employees to remain motivated and productive, you’ll need to ensure that morale stays high.  When morale is low in the workplace, your employees will do the bare minimum that is expected of them, confidence will be low, and you’ll be dealing with an unhappy staff day in day out.  Whether you are the owner of a business, or work in the HR department, the below tips should help you to boost morale quickly.

Reward Employees for Performance

Rather than punishing employees when they don’t perform as expected, make a point to reward those who do a great job.  A lot of employees feel that their efforts aren’t appreciated, and this can be one of the biggest causes of low morale.  However, if you make sure to thank those who perform great work or go above and beyond, you will raise morale in the workplace while simultaneously encouraging those who aren’t performing at their best to improve.

Integrate Yourself Within the Team

If you sit in an office all day separate from your employees, you won’t be able to engage with them regularly or encourage them.  However, when you integrate yourself with the team, you will get to learn each individual’s strengths and weaknesses and encourage them to do what they are good at.  Just seeing the boss helping with regular tasks is enough to motivate some employees, and when they feel like their efforts are being noticed by management, they will be more inclined to continue.

See if You Can Make Their Jobs Easier

If your employees regularly have to do boring, manual jobs, why not see if there is a way to change this.  For example, a recent study found that in the HR department, 40% of the time is spent dealing with employee benefits.  However, HR software such as that by xcdhr.com could eliminate the amount of time this job takes to do, freeing the department up for more important tasks.  Be creative and ask your employees for their opinions too.  If you can minimize the amount of time they spend doing menial things, you won’t just boost morale, you’ll likely boost your business’ profits as well.

Focus on the Small Things

Unless your company is the size of Google, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to provide sleep pods and slides between floors.  However, most employees appreciate the small things.  For example, on a Friday you could encourage them to wear casual clothes to work or finish a couple of hours early.  On a Monday morning you could supply coffee for everyone in the office.  Or, if your employees are all working on a large project and having to work through lunch, you could order from a local restaurant and have it delivered for everyone to enjoy.  All of these things are sure to boost morale and show your employees that you care about them.

Can you think of any more ways to boost employee morale?  Let us know in the comments.
