Am I beautiful? What does beautiful even mean? How do you feel beautiful? Where does beauty come from?
So many questions that so many women today ask themselves....
"When God looks into the eyes of a woman, he sees all the beauty he created there. He sees every potential and every gift. He sees what can be and redeems what has been. He loves the curly hair that you wish were straight. He is taken with your smile and the shape of your nose. He is crazy about big feet and knobby knees and every curve that is particular to you. He is the one who loves the inside and outside of you. You were all His idea and you are physically and emotionally beautiful to him!" -Angela Thomas " Do you think I am beautiful?"
You see there comes a time in each of our lives that we have to push our flaws aside and really engage in the true beauty that lies beneath what we have covered up for so long. I am guilty of this and I am sure I am not the only one.
We all come from different backgrounds and all have a past that has hindered us in one way or another. I personally have had struggles with finding true beauty that is inside of me. From a young age I was called "fat" by my own father, I thought for the longest time that I was never beautiful to him. My own father never saw me as beautiful. No little girl should ever feel this way. Little did I know it would affect the way I saw God. I questioned God a lot about beauty and if I am really beautiful to him. I was never confident in who God created me to be. I just wanted to fit in and I wanted to be beautiful like everyone else around me. I struggled with bulimia for about 9 years because I never thought I was beautiful enough.
Over many, I mean MANY years of counseling I started to peel layer after layer back and started to see things I have never noticed before. I was beautiful, I saw myself the way God sees me for the very first time. It was such a beautiful experience when I saw how God sees me.
Songs Of Solomon 4:7 ESV "You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you"
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV "But the Lord said to Samuel, " Do not look on his appearance or on the height of is stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
These are just a few of the many verses in the Bible that talk about beauty and how God sees you! Did you know that once you finally see yourself the way God sees you it builds your confidence in who you were created to be. You see we were not created to live inside our shells and go through the motions of life. We were made to be the hands and feet of Christ, and in order to do that we have to know that we are "Fearfully and Wonderfully made. (Psalm 139)
As you go through today try to focus on the beauty of things and not on your flaws!
