Your kidneys are vital organs in your body among many others. They regulate water in the body by removing the excess or retaining enough water. They also help balance the minerals in the body and get rid of waste products. The hormones that kidneys produce regulate cell production, blood pressure and calcium in your body.

Because your kidneys do all these and more, you need to make sure that they are always healthy. Here are some revealed secrets on how you can do just that.

Drink Enough Water

Water is one of the things that your body needs in order to be healthy. It helps the organs and different systems to function properly. It is important to drink six to eight glasses of water a day, and maybe even more if you are losing a lot because of hot weather or strenuous physical activities. Drinking water or consuming other healthy fluids will make removal of toxins and other unwanted elements from the body easier.

Eat the Right Foods

Foods rich in vitamin d, vitamin b12, vitamin c, and vitamin e are good for a better kidney function. Grains like whole wheat bread, rice and pasta are great, too. Don’t forget to eat your fruits and vegetables, as well. Make sure to control your salt intake and consumption of various fatty foods. Reduce eating processed foods and try to prepare your own food as much as possible so you would know what ingredients are included in the dish.

Keep Fit and Stay Active

Being overweight and idle just increases the blood pressure. High blood pressure is bad for your kidneys. Exercise regularly to keep your weight in check. If you are not in to going to gyms or getting a trainer, you can stay active by joining different sports, hiking every weekend, swimming, and much more. You can also walk around your neighborhood or have a walk in the park for about 30 minutes to 1 hour a day. Watch what you eat and consult a nutritionist to make sure that you are getting the right nutrition for your age and height.

Supplement Yourself

This could be tricky if you do not know the best kidney health supplements in the market. Make sure to choose dietary supplements that have been proven and tested to be effective and safe. Although these supplements are usually of natural extracts, you still have to know your right dose and do not take too much. Different dietary supplements can help in filling in the nutrients you do not get from the food you eat.

Quit Smoking and Regulate Drinking Alcohol

The chemicals found in tobacco are a few of the most harmful elements for the body. Smoking can damage blood vessels and increase blood pressure. Similarly, excessive drinking of alcohol is also not good for the body. It could cause damages in different parts of the body and would trigger high blood pressure, too. Although it is healthy to drink a glass of wine each day, it is not recommended to consume more than that for your health.
