Judo is a Japanese sport that demands both physical prowess and great mental discipline. This game has gained more popularity in the recent times, attracting many young people into its fold. The game has also attracted a great following, with many people turning out to come out and as spectators.
However, lack of knowledge about this sport can make you not to find the enjoyment you had hoped for. Among the things that you need to understand is their sport uniforms. Many spectators have ended up getting confused in the middle of the game as they have failed to understand and appreciate the uniform used by the sportsmen and women. In this article, we shall look at what the competitors wear as they compete.
If you have ever attended the judo sport you will agree that every competitor wears a certain type of pant. This pant is known as jubon. The jubon pants are made in a specific way, and can readily be differentiated from other types of pants. The pants are made in such a way that they are just enough to cover the legs. This is because, as a sign of respect for the game, you are not supposed to expose parts of your legs to the viewers. The pants should not extend beyond the ankle joint. Actually, experts say the pants should be at least 5 centimeters above the ankle joint. This is to enable free movement of the competitor.
Female competitors are required to wear a T-shirt under their jackets. The t-shirt should be plain in color, most preferably white. However, one can still wear an off-white t-shirt and compete without violating the rules of the game. This is usually worn by females. The judo uniform requires that every female competitor wears a t-shirt which is short sleeved. The t-shirt should be worn under a jacket. This, however, does not apply to male competitors. For them, wearing a jacket is enough for the judo gi.
Every competitor is required to put on a jacket otherwise known as kimono. The left side of the jacket is required to be folded over the right side.
The belt should be tied in a square knot. This is done by placing the left side over and under the right side then placing the right side over and under the left side.
