There are easy and inexpensive ways to create a dramatic look for a room or throughout your home or apartment. The use of color, lighting, and a few basic accessories will give your place style.

And the cool thing about this is that you can simply use the items, furniture, and accessories you already have on hand.

Go For A Sharply Contrasting Color Scheme-For example, red, white, and black, or you can use several shades of one color (Like an all-blue room).
Or No Color At All-An all-white room can be very dramatic.
Lights, Please!-Draw attention to a picture or standout art piece by placing enough lighting nearby.
Emphasize One Part of the Room-The best place is usually directly across from the doorway-the first thing you see when you enter.
If It's A Wall-Add a striking piece of furniture, and hang a nice picture over it.
If It's A Fireplace-Choose bold accessories for the mantel.
And If It's A Window-Hang up some fancy drapes or curtains.
Additional Tips
If you decide to choose an all-white color scheme, you can soften the look by adding muted colors, such as dusty rose or sage green for slipcovers, window treatments, etc.-They won't stand out sharply against the white, so the walls will "blend" into them.
But if you want a dramatic contrast effect, use bits of very dark colors-A chair or throw pillow there, a picture or mirror frame here.
For even more dramatic effect, add a touch of black for:
Emphasis, such as a large black and gold mirror
Balance-Use black lampshades in white or light-colored rooms.
To Anchor-Try a black-background rug; it'll combine your room colors on a solid ground.
Sophistication-Use black throw pillows; for a room that looks unified, fresh and lively, stick with two colors and use them in stripes, florals, plaids, and paints to spark interest. Even if you love bright colors, you'll find them easier to live with if you choose slightly muted tones for your d├ęcor. For example, the best shade of yellow to use to make a room look welcoming and airy at the same time would be a butter color
