To enjoy a good wine is above all to recognize its qualities, while taking into account the indisputable element that is the specific taste factor of each one. Enjoying a wine does not mean tasting a wine. Tasting is a refined art which allows to evaluate the qualities and the characteristics of a wine, without any personal and subjective condition

Evaluate the qualities

It is about evaluating its unique properties by appropriating them, thanks to our own experience as to the matured knowledge during previous tastings. Knowledge acquires, or rather grows, with experience. Therefore it is essential to evaluate analytically different wines. In this practice result the pleasant "torture" of each wine taster.

Wine tasting is an exclusive art that expresses itself mainly thanks to the talent of the taster, and therefore to a large extent with the personal technical knowledge that it has of the tasting. Experience and memory are therefore two essential elements for learning about wine. Everyone can practice, and become a good wine taster. Each one possesses the qualities required to evaluate the characteristics of a wine: the senses!

What else?

The evaluation and the tasting of the wine is thus carried out through the own senses of each one. All tasting consists of a stimulation of the senses that causes sensations. The brain then enters into an analytical process. It is through training and stored experience that the analysis of perceived sensations makes it possible to express an evaluation.

The evaluation of the wine is determined by the taster according to two distinct criterias: subjective or objective. Often, wines are tasted for comparative reasons, in order to determine whether one or another wine is better or worse than another. Sometimes, the wines are tasted to evaluate their characteristics or to check if they possess the typical elements of the cru to which it belongs. A box of wines in monthly subscription such as that proposed by Le Petit Ballon can allow you to start the initiation without worrying about the choice.

Knowing how to recognize a good wine, and how to appreciate a wine that satisfies us, amounts to knowing how to compare it with others. This allows us to choose the one that matches to our expectations, it's not easy! Each sense, and its good use, is a door that leads to the wonders and surprises of tasting. But in a world that constantly pushes us towards homologation, knowing how to choose a wine according to our own taste is also a great freedom.
