Even in the current age of having a fashionable beard, for a lot of men, whether for work or personal preference, nothing beats a close shave. We are going to look at some of the best ways to get the ultimate smooth chin without cuts or razor bumps. There are a few different methods to get a close shave and we will look at the main ones and which one you would feel more comfortable with. There is no point in say using a cut-throat razor if you don’t like blades. Here is how to get a close shave.

First things first have a shower. This might sound strange as the feeling of a shower after you have shaved is soothing, but showering first will help you to open up your pores. The steam that is generated makes them expand and easier to shave.Next use some pre-shave oil. This will have the effect or make all the hairs on your face nice and soft, so the razor has less work to do as well as helping to protect the skin underneath the hairs.

Using a good shaving cream works well if you can build it up into a good foam. It will help the hairs to rise allowing you to get much closer to the skin. If you have a brush to apply it and get the foam then great, otherwise work well in your hands before massaging it into your face.

The Shave

Cutthroat’ will get you the ultimate in close shaves but these take a lot of slow practice to master and is more time-consuming. A safety razor still does a good job and is more convenient.

Shaving with the grain is the best way to shave your face and helps to avoid cuts and any razor bumps. Just check beforehand which way your hair naturally lies and go in the direction. You may have to re-foam and shave again once or twice to get your face silky smooth. Try to pull the skin on your face tight while you shave to help get the closeness you desire and if you feel it is needed shave across the grain but never against it.

After the Shave

Use an aftershave balm or lotion. Look for one that contains tea tree oil or aloe vera. Both help put the moisture back into your skin and help with the soft feeling. They are also much gentler than alcohol-based versions and won’t give you the moment of pain like when you first put aftershave on directly after a shave.

Other Options

If you don’t fancy shaving yourself then you can always let someone else go to the trouble. Finding a Turkish Barbers or a similar equivalent is easy to do and can give you some time for relaxing while a practised professional takes the strain. Even men enjoy getting pampered sometimes. Another riskier option is to let your wife or loved one do it. We’ve all seen James Bond have it done, and it could help you both to feel closer to each other.

Enjoy It

Take your time with your body shaver and try and give yourself extra time to get ready. It will help you to relax and get it right before you go to that important meeting, night out or date. That is how to get a close shave.
