Have you ever been trapped on the road all alone with a flat tire? Do you want to learn how to change a car tire all by yourself without taking help from some other person? It is really very easy to change a car tire and you have to do is to be prepared for some effort.

  1. Find a stable place to change your car tire.

Make sure that the place where you are going to change the tire is solid level surface as it would restrict your car from rolling. If you are close to a road, then you must park it as far as possible from the traffic and can also turn on your hazard lights.

  1. Don’t forget to apply the parking brake.

If you have a standard transmission, then you must put your vehicle in first or reverse.

  1. Place a heavy object.

You must place some heavy objects like rocks, concrete or can also use a spare tire in front of the back and front car tires.

  1. Take out the spare tire as well as the jack.

Carefully place the jack under the frame which is near to the tire which you are about to change. Make sure that your jack is in proper contact with the metal portion of your car’s frame. A lot of cars have plastic moulded in their bottom, so you must place the jack in the correct place or else the plastic would get cracked while lifting. One can always refer to their owner’s manual if they are not sure about the correct place to out the jack.

  1. Keep on raising the jack until it starts supporting the car.

The car jack should be placed firmly in the place which is against the underside of the vehicle. Be sure that the jack is perpendicular to the ground.

  1. Remove the hubcap and loosen then loosen the nuts.

If you are keeping the wheels on the ground while loosening the nuts, then just be sure that you are turning the nuts instead of the wheel. For this purpose, you can always use a wrench with your car.

  1. Pump the jack to carefully lift the tire off the ground.

If you want to remove the flat car tire and replace it with a spare one, then you must lift it high enough. When you are lifting it, make sure that your car is perfectly stable. If you find that there is some sort of instability involved, then you can always lower the jack and fix the problem before lifting up the car fully.

  1. Remove the nuts.

Now you will have to turn the nuts in a counter clockwise direction unless and until they are loose. Remove all the nuts completely.

  1. Remove the car tire.

If you want to prevent your car form getting damaged, then you must place the flat tire under your car so that in case the jack fails, then the vehicle would ultimately fall on the flat tire preventing injuries. You will not have to face any problems if the jack is placed on a flat tire.

  1. Place the spare tire on the hub.

Just take care to properly align the rim of the extra tire with the wheel bolts. Once this is done, you can put the lug nuts. Make sure that you install the spare tires in a correct way and not backwards

  1. Tighten all the nuts by hand

The nuts should turn easily at first. Then later you can use a wrench to tighten the nuts as much as possible.

  1. Lower down the car without applying weight on the tire.

Now tighten the nuts of the wheel as much as you can with a wrench.

  1. Lower your car to the ground and then remove the jack.

Once you have finished tightening the nuts, then you should replace the hubcap.

  1. Pick up your old flat tire and take it to a mechanic.

Take your car tire to a mechanic and he would give you an estimate for the cost of repair. Get it repaired and if it is not repairable, then you must dispose it off safely.
